摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery for achieving high capacity and long life. <P>SOLUTION: The negative electrode for the lithium ion secondary battery is provided with a metal foil, protrusions made of a conductive matter on the metal foil, and thin films of a negative electrode active material formed on a surface of the metal foil, and on a top face as well as on side faces of each protrusion. Preferably, a height of the protrusion is 10 to 100 &mu;m, a width of the same is 10 to 100 &mu;m, and an interval of the protrusions is 10 to 100 &mu;m.
