The device (1) has a control (16) provided with capacitors (17) i.e. plate capacitor. The capacitors are arranged so that capacitance of an electrical tooth brush (2) is influenced so that presence of the brush in a charging position is detected. A dielectric (7) extends between electrodes (5, 6) of the capacitors, where dielectric constant of the dielectric is changed by exerting force or causing a field on the dielectric. The force or the field depends on whether the brush is arranged in the position, where the brush comprises a radio frequency identification tag. An independent claim is also included for a method for charging the energy storage unit of the electrical tooth brush.
