<p>A brush-type mat and a method of forming it is described. The mat is formed with a biodegradable plastic body constituted by a combination of a particular natural rubber latex formulation and a particular synthetic rubber formulation, a combination of the two formulations having a short shelf life but its individual components having a satisfactorily long shelf life. The combination is produced from the two formulations and fed (12) as a layer onto a moving Teflon belt (14) through an assembly station at which fibrous material (2) is added to the uncured layer.
