PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning motion error measuring method for reducing influence of a spindle rotation error unremovable in a conventional measuring method, in the scanning motion error measuring method having features of simplicity, low cost, quickness and low installation area since a special external reference is not required. SOLUTION: In this method, the influence of the motion error of a rotation center shaft 4 is reduced by determining an average of an integer number of rotations of the rotation center shaft 4, in a device in which a workpiece 5 to be a machining object prepared on a lathe or a cylindrical grinding machine is used as a measuring reference as it is without removing the workpiece 5 from a spindle 3, a displacement detecting device B is arranged at a position facing to a tool T in relation to the rotation center shaft 4 of the spindle 3 mounted with the workpiece 5 and a motion error provided in a slide scanning mechanism by making the rotation center shaft 4 as a reference is measured from an output of the displacement detecting device B obtained, while performing scanning by slide along the rotation center shaft 4.
