An observation wheel type ride, including a support structure, a wheel, said wheel being rotatable mounted in said support structure and/or including transportation means, which are movable supported on the wheel, and a drive mechanism, including a rotary drive and a drive cable, whereas a section of the drive cable is detachably fixed to a circumference of the wheel and/or to the transportation means for transmitting the rotary movement of the rotary drive to the wheel and/or to the transportation means, is characterized by deflection means for deflecting in a lateral direction with respect to the wheel that section of the drive cable, which is led over the rotary drive.
