PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an author to handle only one of an L-area for storing an image for the left eye and an R-area for storing an image for the right eye with respect to the video planes which are storage areas wherein the storage areas of images of two planes consisting of the L-area and the R-area are arranged side by side and which store video images.

SOLUTION: One API of an API for L which sets the size and the position of the image to be stored in the L-area and an API for R which sets the size and the position of the image to be stored in the R-area sets the size and the position identical to the size and the position of the image set by the other API. The offset value of a graphics plane and that of a PG plane are also scaled by the scaling ratio of the image stored in the video plane. This invention can be applied to a BD player etc., for reproducing a BD.
