PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face plate mounting structure and a face plate mounting method capable of easily mounting a packing of U-shape in cross section around a face plate and storing the packing in a groove part recessed in the inner peripheral edge face of a mounting frame with high working efficiency to ensure the assembling of a stile. SOLUTION: In this structure for mounting a face plate through a packing which is attached to the peripheral edge of the face plate and formed in a generally U-shape in cross section, the packing 1 includes a rear surface part 11 and a pair of holding pieces 12 extending from the end of the rear surface part 11. The holding piece 12 includes a base end part 121, an intermediate part 122, and a front end part 123. The base end parts 121 form corner parts with the rear surface part 11, and are expanded from the intermediate part 122 continuously connected to the base end part 121 toward the front end parts 123 in an arcuate shape. Each holding piece 12 expands and contracts in association elastically with each other. A face plate 3 is fitted into a groove part 5 recessed in a mounting frame 4 through a packing 1.
