<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for reproducing a two-dimensional distribution of temperatures in an exhaust plane of a gas turbine engine (10). <P>SOLUTION: Light transmission (52) and detection (54) pairs may be arranged in the annulus of the exhaust (16) of the turbine engine (10) in such a way that individual rays form a two-dimensional mesh (70) of beams across a sector of the exhaust (16). Based on the absorption of the rays, the temperature of the sector of the exhaust (16) through which the ray passes may be determined.
