PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weeding and growth retarding method of a paddy field or upland to readily and easily inhibit growth of weed and wither the weed. SOLUTION: Surface of soil is repeatedly stirred or pressed after paddling before transplantation or direct sowing in the case of a paddy field or before sowing or seedling transplantation in the case of an upland field at intervals of 7 to 14 days to embed sprouted weeds etc., in the soil and wither the sprouted weed seed by shielding sunlight.
