PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing or suppressing glacier melt by cooling the ground of glacier. SOLUTION: In this device 1 for preventing melt of glacier 3 by using a heat pipe 2 by burying one end section of the heat pipe 2 in the ground 4, exposing the other end section to the atmosphere, and cooling the ground by radiating heat of the ground 4 to the atmosphere, a covering member 5 is disposed to cover one end section of the heat pipe 2, and an inclined face 5b or a circular arc-shaped inclined face 5a for changing the flowing direction of the glacier 3 is formed on a horizontal cross-section of the covering member 5. Accordingly, the flow of glacier 3 can be dispersed by the inclined face 5a when the glacier 3 flows around the covering member 5, and the pressure generated on the covering member 5 by the flow of glacier 3 can be dispersed. Thus collapse of the heat pipe 2 can be prevented or suppressed, and the ground 4 on which the glacier 3 flows can be stably cooled. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
