<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable device used for locking and unlocking or opening and closing of doors of an automobile and a vehicle communication system using the portable device, which can be easily attached to the automobile. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle communication system includes: a portable device 50 including a single portable device antenna 41 capable of transmission and reception and a switching means 42 switchable by a control means 45; and an on-board device 60 including a single on-board antenna 51 capable of transmission and reception and a switching means 52 switchable by a control means 56.
