PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recorder body from being soiled with a liquid or to prevent a recording medium from being wasted even when the recording medium is mistaken to be mounted. SOLUTION: The recorder which is equipped with: a conveying means for conveying the recording medium; a detecting means for detecting the width of the recording medium, which is movable in the direction crossing the conveying direction of the recording medium; and a recording head for recording information by discharging the liquid. When the width of the recording medium detected by the detecting means is shorter than the width of the recording medium to record the recording information in the direction crossing the conveying direction of the recording medium, the recording information of the part corresponding to the width or less of the recording medium detected by the detecting information of the recording information is recorded by the recording head on the recording medium.
