The invention relates to an aqueous binder system which comprises an acid-functional polymer A and an epoxide-functional polymer B, and wherein polymer A comprises moieties having at least one acid group, and polymer B comprises moieties having at least one epoxy group, and wherein the quantities of polymers A and B are chosen to provide a ratio of the amount of substance n(Ac) of acid groups in A to the amount of substance n(EP) of epoxide groups in B of from 1.5 mol : 1 mol to 0.7 mol : 1 mol, a process for its manufacture, and a method of use thereof.
