SOLUTION: The railway vehicle drive unit 12 is the drive unit that rotates and drives a wheel 11 of railway vehicle, and includes a reduction gear housing 13 having a locking mechanism 40 preventing relative rotation with the wheel 11 on an outside diameter surface and supported on an inside diameter surface of the wheel 11 and rotating integrally with the wheel 11, an input side rotating member 14 connected to a drive source, and a speed reduction mechanism 15 reducing the rotation of the input side rotating member 14 and transmitting it to the reduction gear housing 13.
