<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism having the improved ability of producing kojic acid by utilizing a gene essential for the production of the kojic acid, and to provide a method for producing the microorganism. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the microorganism having the improved ability for producing the kojic acid includes positively regulating the expression levels of one or more genes essential for the production of the kojic acid and selected from the group consisting of specific base sequences in microorganisms, and/or the activity of proteins encoded by the genes.
