The mechanism (1) has a set of individual roller sections (3), and a support bearing (4) determining a degree of curvature of the mechanism and adjustable between the individual roller sections. The support bearing is movable over connection elements that are connected with the support bearing by adjustment devices (7). A drive (8) consists of an axle (8') or spindle (8''), which is aligned in a transverse direction (y) of continuous fibrous webs. The drive is engagable and disengagable with the adjustment devices over a clutch (9). An independent claim is also included for a method for expanding a continuous fibrous web by an expander mechanism.
