PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve torque responsiveness of an internal combustion engine by suppressing a delay in response of cylinder air volume caused when both required torque and required efficiency are increased. SOLUTION: The differenceΔTrq between an increased torque for KL (required latent torque) obtained by dividing the required torque by the required efficiency and the required torque is calculated. When a value with the previous value of the differenceΔTrq added to the required torque is compared with the increased torque for KL and the latter reaches a magnitude smaller than the former, a torque correction amount is set with the previous value of the differenceΔTrq as an initial value. The required cylinder air volume is calculated using the value with the torque correction amount added to the increased torque for KL, and an opening command value for a throttle is calculated from the required cylinder air volume.
