<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine, for compatibly controlling variable valve train and a phase fixing mechanism with a single control valve and accurately fixing a valve timing with the mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The variable valve gear includes a valve timing varying mechanism 30, an intermediate lock mechanism 40 for fixing a valve timing at an intermediate angle, and a hydraulic pressure supply device for hydraulically driving the mechanisms. The hydraulic pressure supply device uses a single oil control valve for controlling the conditions of supplying/discharging lubricating oil into/from a timing advance chamber 35 and a timing delay chamber 36, and the intermediate chamber of the intermediate lock mechanism 40. The oil control valve has first-fourth modes. In the third mode, it advances the valve timing and drives the intermediate lock mechanism 40 to be protruded. In the fourth mode, it sets the amount of supplying lubricating oil to the valve timing varying mechanism 30 to be smaller in the fourth mode than in the third mode, to advance the valve timing and drive the intermediate lock mechanism 40 to be canceled. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
