A display system includes an optical light source 102 and a display panel 108 with an array of optically excitable pixels. Optics 106/108 are positioned between the optical light source 102 and the display panel 108 so as to direct light from the optical light source 102 toward the display panel 108 to cause the optically excitable pixels to emit a visible image.
