PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus which achieves stable ink ejection by cooling heat generated by image recording by a fan while maintaining an image recording speed high, and suppresses ink stain within the image recording apparatus generated by influences on ink droplets of an air flow of the fan, and to provide a cooling control method. SOLUTION: An ambient temperature of a recording unit 13 is measured by a unit ambient temperature measuring part 27, and an ink temperature is measured by an ink temperature measuring part 28. A unit driving rate calculating part 20 calculates a driving rate of the recording unit 13 from job information. A cooling control part 19 controls a cooling part 26 on the basis of the information.
