PURPOSE: A paper sheet pickup device is provided to pick up paper sheets at high speed and easily pick up heavy paper sheets. CONSTITUTION: A paper sheet pickup device(1) comprises a pickup belt(4) and a negative pressure chamber(5). A pickup belt is operated along the paper sheet positioned on the lowermost side of the accumulation direction. The negative pressure chamber is provided in the inner side of the pickup belt and is connected to a pump. A valve unit is interposed between the negative pressure chamber and the pump. An air inlet tube is connected to the negative pressure chamber and supplies air.
