Disclosed is a baking oven which comprises of: at least one oven chamber having a floor; at least one heating means for generating heat; and at least one support means including a rotatable turntable for supporting one or more baking trays (30) in a baking tray position within the heating chamber. The oven chamber has an active region (40) under the baking tray position and an inactive region positioned outwardly of the active region, the heating means being positioned to provide substantially more heat to the active region than to the inactive region for more directly heating an underside of the baking tray position. The heating means include a plurality of heating elements (20), which extend from a wall (26) of the oven into the active region. Each element has an inactive portion (21) and an active portion (22), where the inactive portion extends from the wall to the active region. The active portion extends within the active region for more directly heating an underside of the baking trays.
