Wound dressing having voids that are large and resistant to collapse for encouraging cellular growth

A wound contact device (300) for use in treating a wound is disclosed. The device (300) facilitates wound healing with suction- assisted wound therapy to encourage cellular activity. The device (300) comprises a permeable material and a wound contact layer having voids. The voids (304) extend through the wound contact layer into the permeable material. The wound contact layer can comprise a thin sheet or film forming a generally flat and smooth wound contact surface (310) having essentially no discontinuities or gaps. In progressive wound healing, an embodiment of the wound contact device (300) having the fabric contact surface is used in earlier healing stages and an embodiment of the wound contact device (300) with film contact surface is used in later healing stages.
