<p>Disclosed is a return spring assembly (10) for a lock mechanism adapted for installation in a bored opening in a door. The assembly includes a spring housing (12), a compression spring (30), and first (32) and second (34) spring drivers. The housing has an outer flange (14) that makes supporting contact a face of a door, the outer flange having a greater diameter than the bored opening, and an inner portion (16) extending into the bored opening with a curved section (20) and an annular spring channel (28). The curved section extends more deeply into the bored opening. The first spring driver has an arm (36) engaging a first end of the spring and the second spring driver has an arm (42) engaging a second end of the spring. Each spring driver includes a center (52, 54) to engage a spindle driven by a handle. The spring drivers alternately compress the spring from opposite directions as the handle is rotated in opposite directions.</p> |
