PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: a sufficient electric field in a nip cannot be obtained and desired transfer efficiency cannot be obtained in the case of a recording medium like a thick paper. SOLUTION: A transfer device includes: a transfer belt 40; a driving roller 41 as a first roller; a second roller 42; a secondary transfer roller 61 as a third roller around which a transfer belt 40 is stretched by the driving roller 41 and the second roller 42 is wound; a first voltage source 101 for applying a voltage to the secondary transfer roller 61; a voltage application member 65 which applies a voltage to a region where the transfer belt 40 is wound around the secondary transfer roller 61, of the secondary transfer roller; and an auxiliary voltage source 102 as a second voltage source for applying a voltage to the voltage application member 65. The first voltage source 101 and the auxiliary voltage source 102 are controlled so that a current I1 flowing between the driving roller 41 and the secondary transfer roller 61, and a current I2 flowing between the voltage application member 65 and the secondary transfer roller 61 are changed based on a paper type.
