摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control rod for a nuclear reactor having a mechanically and electrical water chemically sound long life for long term usage by alleviating an impact load under an irradiation embrittlement condition in the long life, by improving the electrical water chemical property by securing a water flow interval and by mitigating the blade history problem. SOLUTION: In the control rod 1 for the nuclear reactor, four pieces of a wing 2 are arranged centered around a central structure material 6 in a cross shape, the wing 2 storing a neutron absorbing element 10 consisting of a neutron absorbing material made of a metal or alloy containing hafnium as a body inside of a metal sheath 7 having a U shaped cross section, wherein the neutron absorbing element 10 is divided into a plurality of neutron absorbing elements 10a-10d in the axis direction from the insertion end of the control rod, the thickness of the each divided neutron absorbing element 10a-10d is decreased stepwise from the insertion end side of the control rod 1, the neutron absorbing element 10a which is located nearest to the insertion end side is held hanging with an end structure material 4, and the neutron absorbing element 10b arranged at the lower part of the neutron absorbing element 10a, which is located nearest to the insertion end, is held by the central structure material 6.
