PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a thermoplastic resin composition enabling incorporation of a large amount of plant fiber and having sufficient fluidity when used for injection molding, or the like. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin composition contains a thermoplastic resin (a polypropylene-based resin, particularly such as combination use of the polypropylene-based resin and an acid-modified polypropylene-based resin) and pulverized fibers formed by pulverizing plant fiber (kenaf fiber or the like), wherein the pulverized fiber is contained by 50-95 mass% per total of the resin and the fibers, and is provided with a cutting step of: cutting the plant fiber into a prescribed length to form cut fiber (the length of the fiber is preferably≤20 mm); a pulverizing step of: pulverizing the cut fiber into the pulverized fiber (the length is preferably 0.5-6 mm and average fiber diameter is 10-60μm); and a mixing step of: melting and kneading the thermoplastic resin with the pulverized fiber.
