PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and imaging method for easily detecting a motion with high accuracy to perform proper image processing. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a motion detection signal value calculator 61 for calculating a motion detection signal value by detecting a motion based on an input image of a present frame and an output image of a previous frame; a motion detector 62 for calculating a motion value based on the motion detection signal value; and a motion-adaptive image processor 63 for generating an output image of the present frame by applying motion-adaptive image processing to the input image of the present frame on the basis of the motion value. The motion detection signal value calculator 61 calculates and outputs the motion detection signal with an offset reduced in accordance with a generation status for the input image of the present frame.
