PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection-type video display apparatus which suppresses an increase in overall cost of the apparatus even when light beams of four colors or more are used. SOLUTION: The projection-type video display apparatus 120 includes: a light source 10; optical modulation elements 30R, 30G and 30B configured to modulate light emitted from the light source; a light guide means 321 configured to separate the light emitted from the light source into red component light, green component light and blue component light, and guide the light to the optical modulation element; and a projection means 110 configured to project the light modulated by the optical modulation element. The light guide means includes an optical element 323 that reflects the green component light and transmits to synthesize other color component light having longer wavelength than the green component light. The other color component light is synthesized and enters the optical modulation element with the green component light.
