PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader, capable of reducing the risk of damaging originals by conveying the originals suitable for conveyance and preventing conveyance of originals which are not suitable for conveyance among the originals left behind. SOLUTION: The reader reads the originals on a reading surface held by an openable/closable flat bed cover and is provided with a reading means for reading the originals; a detection means for detecting presence/no presence of the originals on the reading surface; a determination means for determining whether the types of the originals are the ones which can be conveyed; and a conveyance means for conveying no original, when it is detected that there are the originals, after the lapse of time predetermined by the detection means and it is determined that the types of the originals are not the ones which can be conveyed by the determination means, and conveying the originals to a storage means for storing the originals, when it is determined that the types of the originals are the ones which can be conveyed.
