579,329. Gas-air mixers. PEARCE, M. May 14, 1943, No. 7711. [Class 7 (ii)] A gas-air mixing device of the kind supplied with gas under pressure controlled by a main regulating valve operated by the depression in a venturi tube through which the air flows is provided downstream of the mixture throttle 5 with an adjustable pilot nozzle 8, the suction on which, when the throttle valve is nearly closed cannot be applied directly to the main nozzle 2 at the throat of the venturi tube 1. The main nozzle may be isolated by a non-return valve in the gas supply conduit if the pilot nozzle is fed therefrom but as shown the pilot nozzle is fed from the gas main 7a past a spring-pressed regulating valve 19 controlled by a diaphragm 14 exposed on its lower side to the gas supply and on its upper side to the atmosphere. A pipe 10 conveys the gas to a chamber 9 on the mixture passage 27, the chamber housing the pilot nozzle 8 and also a transition nozzle 25 disposed close to but upstream of the mixture throttle 5.
