Disclosed is a global positioning system for controlling the global positioning performed by a portable terminal and allowing the portable terminal to perform global positioning at adequate time intervals. A server device provided in the global positioning system includes a positional information receiving unit for receiving positional information from a portable terminal, a positional information storage unit for storing the received positional information and time information corresponding thereto, a staying time analyzing unit for retrieving positional information matching with new positional information newly received by the positional information receiving unit from the positional information storage unit, analyzing the time information associated with the retrieved positional information, and calculating an estimated value of the time for which the portable terminal stays in the position represented by the new positional information, a schedule generating unit for generating global positioning schedule information according to the calculated estimated value, and a schedule transmitting unit for transmitting the generated global positioning information to the portable terminal.
