<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve whiteness so as to produce ink having whiteness comparable to that obtained by using titanium dioxide even when using shell as an edible pigment. <P>SOLUTION: A white edible pigment including shell powders is mixed with a solvent containing a spreading agent and a wetting agent to produce a liquid edible white ink to be coated onto an object. The edible pigment includes a calcium carbonate powder having a particle diameter of ≤20 μm which is obtained by heat treatment of shells at 160-400°C. Desirably, the edible pigment is obtained by heat treatment of shells at 180-380°C.
