PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic elecrtroluminescent element low in drive voltage, high in luminous efficiency and long in a driving life in the organic electroluminescent element including a light emitting layer formed by a wet film-deposition method and containing a low molecular weight compound and an organic layer formed adjacent to a cathode side of the light emitting layer and constituted of a compound containing no metal atoms. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent element including an anode, the light emitting layer, the first organic layer disposed adjacent to the light emitting layer, and the cathode in this order, wherein the light emitting layer is a layer containing a compound containing an aryl amine compound and an anthracene ring, the first organic layer is a layer constituted of the compound containing no metal atoms. and the light emitting layer is a layer formed by a wet film-deposition method, the organic electroluminescent element satisfies a relation (3) of 0.8≤n<SP>H</SP>/n<SP>E</SP>≤1.6 (wherein, n<SP>H</SP>denotes the refractive index of the first organic layer and n<SP>E</SP>denotes the refractive index of the light emitting layer).
