PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear scale improving an electrostatic-proof voltage without impairing moving feel of movable parts and safely discharge static electricity without generating noise from internal circuits. SOLUTION: A long linear scale material 2 with a built-in marking portion 2b is placed in a case 10 of a linear scale 1. A moving portion 3 includes a detection portion 34 moving in relation to the linear scale material 2 and detecting a signal from the marking portion 2b and a frame 39 holding the detection portion 34. A movement guide 4 supports the moving portion 3 movably to longitudinal direction of the linear scale material 2.
