PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical position detector and optical device for appropriately acquiring position information with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: This optical position detector includes a light emitting section for emitting light y<SB>1</SB>to be detected, a reflecting plate 83a that relatively moves along the optical axis direction with respect to the light emitting section and includes an optical pattern where white regions and black regions having a reflectance different from that of the white regions for the light y<SB>1</SB>to be detected are arranged alternately, and a light receiving section for outputting an output signal based on the light intensity of the light y<SB>1</SB>to be detected reflected on the reflecting plate 83a. The irradiation width H<SB>L</SB>of the light y<SB>1</SB>to be detected emitted by the light emitting section to the reflecting plate 83a is made greater than a pattern width H<SB>1</SB>formed of the white region and a pattern width H<SB>2</SB>formed of the black region and made smaller than the pattern width (H<SB>1</SB>+H<SB>2</SB>) obtained by adding the pattern width H<SB>1</SB>formed of the white region to the pattern width H<SB>2</SB>formed of the black region.
