PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor driving device which reduces the time required for detecting a step-out point to reduce consumption power, thereby securing stable rotation of a motor without causing step-out, and an image forming device. SOLUTION: An arithmetic processor 6 starts driving by a motor driver 8 at a self-start frequency of the motor 1, controls a motor driver phase current indicator 7 to switch a phase current value from 100% to 80% while the motor 1 is driven at the self-start frequency, and calculates the phase current value at which the motor 1 steps out based on the result of detecting the rotational speed of the motor 1 by a motor phase angle detecting section 5 between a plurality of successive sections when the motor 1 is driven at a 100% phase current value and based on the result of detecting rotational speed of the motor 1 between a plurality of successive sections when the motor 1 is driven at a 80% phase current value.
