PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing the occurrence of so-called, "ghost upon continuous printing" when continuously forming images from the initial stage of starting the operation of a latent image carrier. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the latent image carrier which is rotationally driven so that an electrostatic latent image may be formed on the surface thereof in accordance with image information; a developing means for developing the electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the latent image carrier with toner; a cleaning means for cleaning the surface of the latent image carrier; a lubricant supply means for supplying lubricant to the surface of the latent image carrier while varying the supply amount; a determination means for determining whether the latent image carrier is in an initial supply mode in which the latent image carrier satisfies a predetermined condition after starting the operation or in a normal supply mode other than the initial supply mode; and a supply amount varying means for varying the supply amount of the lubricant by the lubricant supply means based on the determination result obtained by the determination means.
