The reciprocating piston engine comprises a crankshaft (12) with a crank pin (14), at which a lever element (16) is connected with a corresponding piston rod (18). An actuating unit (24) is provided, by which the lever element is adjusted for adjusting the compression ratio of the reciprocating piston engine between two rotational positions relative to the crank pin. The lever element is adjusted by an elevating screw of the actuating unit.
