The invention relates to a grate bar (1) for an incinerator (60) having a grate bar base body (2) and a high temperature resistant cover plate (30) covering the grate bar base body (2) at least on a surface portion which in operation points to a combustion chamber (62). The cover plate (30) is separated from the grate bar base body (2) by a thermal insulating material (20, 21). In the grate bar base body (2) a cavity (3) is provided in a side pointing to the cover plate (30) and/or in the cover plate (30) in the side pointing to the grate bar base body (2), which is at least partially filled with a ceramic fibre insulating material (20). The invention further relates to a method for producing such a grate bar (1).
