<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and correctly adjust the disposed position of an image writing tool relative to a cylindrical image holder. <P>SOLUTION: An image writing device includes: the image writing tool 1 disposed opposite to the rotatable cylindrical image holder 11 and used for writing an image on the image holder 11; an adjusting mechanism 2 for adjusting the disposed position for the image writing tool 1 for the image holder 11, the adjusting mechanism 2 having a pair of holding members 3 (i.e., 3a, 3b) held on both sides of the writing tool 1 by the adjusting mechanism 2; a gap holding member 4 provided on the image writing tool 1 side, moved in contact with the periphery of the image holder 11, and used for holding a fixed gap between the image writing tool 1 and the image holder 11; and a support mechanism 5 supporting, with the gap held by the gap holding member 4, at least one of the hold members 3 (e.g., 3a) so that the member may be freely swing around a swing center located radially further outside than the periphery of the image holder 11.
