PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work hardness measuring instrument capable of collectively measuring the specific place of a work, such as a gear. SOLUTION: A holder 81 is provided to an impact-absorbing mechanism 78 via a joint part 95, capable of changing the direction of the holder 81. A code 96 indicates a fixing screw for fixing the holder 81 to the joint part 95. A helical gear 14 is set to a work support mechanism 17 and the holder is shaken to adjust a sensor 18 so that the direction of the sensor becomes right-angled with respect to the measuring surface of the helical gear 14. The fixing screw 96 is tightened to fix the holder 81 to the joint part 95. According to this constitution, the specific place of the work, such as, gear can be collectively measured. In addition, since the direction of the sensor is freely adjusted by the joint part, the specific place of the work can be measured, even if the direction of the measuring surface is different by the kind of the work.
