PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium oxide compound chemically modified with a polymer chain, which is obtained by polymerizing a monomer having a radical polymerizable unsaturated bond. SOLUTION: The magnesium oxide compound chemically modified with a polymer chain is obtained by polymerizing the monomer having the radical polymerizable unsaturated bond starting from a radical polymerization initiation group of the compound having the radical polymerization initiation group introduced into a surface of a magnesium oxide through a chemical bond.
