PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer device that obtains a sufficient reduction effect of power consumption in a power saving mode. SOLUTION: A switching hub 1 includes a plurality of ports B1-B5 connected to communication devices, respectively, a setting section 41 for setting the ports B1-B5 to either a higher-level port connected to a higher-level device or a lower-level port connected to a lower-level device, detection sections 40-1 to 40-5 for detecting the establishment states of electrical connections between the lower-level ports and the lower-level devices, and a control section 42 for setting the switching hub 1 in a power saving mode when the detection sections 40-1 to 40-5 detect that no electrical connections are established between the lower-level ports and the respective lower-level devices in all the lower-level ports.
