PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image monitoring device of an escalator, speedily acquiring a condition at the occurrence of abnormal stop of the escalator. SOLUTION: This image monitoring device of the escalator is provided with: switches 9, 10... detecting abnormality of the escalator 1; a plurality of cameras 6, 7, 8, a plurality of recorders 22, 23, 24; a control means 19 stopping the escalator 1; a failure detecting means 20 determining which one of the switches 9, 10... is actuated; and an image control means 21 making a selection among the recorders 22, 23, 24 recording an image photographing the surrounding of the switches 9, 10... actuated by a signal from this failure detecting means 20, and transmitting a signal for making the recorders 22, 23, 24 record an image before and after the abnormal stop of the escalator 1.
