<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To analyze the cause of a failure in a control device provided with hierarchically structured software, even when a higher layer detects the failure based on information received from a lower layer. <P>SOLUTION: Low-order software gives information from a sensor to high-order software, and the high-order software detects a failure based on the information received from the low-order software. The high-order software notifies the low-order software of the failure.
