The invention provides a variable valve device of an engine. In the variable valve device, the actuating mechanism generates power to drive the variable valve mechanism to act through changing the motion characteristic of the engine valve. The actuating mechanism is installed on the engine main body. Thereby, it is unnecessary to configure a specific part for the actuating mechanism so as to reduce the number of parts. A variable valve mechanism (29A) is borne on a specific engine main body component part (13) on one of two engine main body component parts (13, 14) between which variable valve chambers are formed (28); furthermore, a projecting portion (13c) projecting outwards is integrally formed; the actuating mechanism (64) is borne on an actuating mechanism bearing portion (91) whichis coplanarly connected to a combined face (90) of the engine main body component part (13) and other engine main body component part (12) and formed on the projecting portion (13c); and a rotary rod(67) transmitting output of the actuating mechanism to the variable valve mechanism (29A) can be rotatably borne on the specific engine main body component part (13). |
