A battery control unit is provided with: a battery circuit wherein a plurality of batteries are connected in series; a plurality of bypass circuits which exclude each of the batteries from the battery circuit; a plurality of switches which perform switching so as to connect the batteries in series or to connect the batteries to the bypass circuits and exclude the batteries from the battery circuit; a deterioration detecting section which detects deterioration of each of the batteries; and a switch control section which controls the switches so as to exclude a more deteriorated battery from the battery circuit and to connect a less deteriorated battery in series.
