PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejection device that can precisely measure a gap between the head and a medium by an inexpensive structure and can maintain a precise and stable ejection performance. SOLUTION: In the liquid ejection device, when a current amount, an electric charge amount, an energizing start time and an energizing time period at a time when a liquid pillar LP ejected from a nozzle of a liquid ejection head 11 deposits on a medium 13 so as to establish energizing are respectively referred to as energizing characteristic amounts, at least one of the energizing characteristic amounts is measured by an energizing characteristic amount measurement means 15 so as to calculate out a relative distance between the medium 13 and the head 11 on the basis of the measured value. When a difference between a desired gap distance and the calculated distance has a predetermined value or above, a position adjusting operation is performed by a position adjustment means on the basis of the difference signal.
