PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid thermal expansion of a balancing shaft 11 from reaching a cooling water pump 23 in an internal combustion engine in which the balancing shaft synchronously rotating with a crankshaft 6 is journaled in parallel to the crankshaft 6 and the cooling water pump is disposed at one end of the balancing shaft so that its pump shaft 22 is in a straight line with the balancing shaft. SOLUTION: The balancing shaft is rotatably journaled by at least two bearing portions 13, 14. The bearing portion 14 adjacent to the cooling water pump out of the bearing portions has a configuration for inhibiting movement of the balancing shaft in its axial direction, and the other bearing portion 13 has a configuration allowing movement of the balancing shaft in its axial direction.
